1980 – The 50W International Big game Tournament Reel and Senator II Series are introduced to the pleasure of saltwater anglers everywhere.

  1982 – Penn celebrates her fifty-year anniversary!
1982 – The company’s freshwater reels are also excelling with over eight world records to their name.
1983 – Penn acquires Rodco of southern California and opens a new distribution center for easier West Coast operations.
1985 – The International II Two-Speed 80SW and 80S are introduced. The two-speed, one reel, instant shifting concept is a Penn exclusive!
1986 – The 250GR, the only graphite spinning reel built exclusively for saltwater, hits the fishing market. Penn also introduces the legendary HT100, the smoothest and most durable drag material offered in the world.

1986 – Frank Mundus catches a 3,427lb Great White shark, the largest fish ever caught on rod and reel using a Penn International 130. The IGFA does not recognize the record because a dead whale was floating in the vicinity of the catch. It is illegal to use whale meat as bait, although Capt. Mundus never actually had any actual whale meat on his lure.
