| Bill Donovan is
the President and Publisher of the New Jersey Angler Magazine and
co-host of the New Jersey Angler Video Magazine Television Show.
Donovan grew up fishing the backwaters and oceanfront jetties around
Cape May, New Jersey and, though his horizons have expanded to include
almost every style of fishing imaginable from the back bay flats
out to the canyons, his favorite fishing is still of the simplest
variety.
“There’s something about fishing with my feet planted
on a beach, jetty or sod bank that I find especially appealing,”
says Donovan. “Although I appreciate every hour I spend on
the water, I really enjoy the peace and solitude associated with
wading a flat under the cover of darkness, working jigs along a
moonlit inlet jetty, or casting plugs into a heaving autumn surf.”
Nonetheless, Donovan now runs a Parker 23 SE center console out
of Wildwood, New Jersey, which he uses to pursue everything from
skinny-water weakfish to offshore tuna. He also spends a great deal
of time tackling big stripers in Delaware Bay. “I believe
the Delaware Estuary to be a more significant contributor to the
coastal striped bass population than people think. I really wouldn’t
be surprised to see a world record come out of there within the
next few years.”
Donovan is also a popular seminar speaker, and spends a great deal
of time lecturing at boat and outdoor shows, club meetings and other
events. “The face-to-face aspect of my seminars and public
appearances is very important to me,” says Donovan. “I
really love doing personalized instruction, not only because I enjoy
teaching but because I always learn something in the process.”
He adds, “The best anglers are those who acknowledge that
they still have much to learn.”
Donovan is a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Recreational
Fishing Alliance, and a USCG-Certified Captain. He resides in Abington,
Pennsylvania with his wife Ellen and his children, Billy (8) and
Nicholas (5), and maintains a home in Wildwood, NJ, which serves
as a base for many of his angling endeavors.
