The Fathom Level Wind heavy-duty construction and low 4.3:1 gear ratio make it a true workhorse and favorite of charter boat captains and hard fishing anglers. It is designed to handle extreme abuse day-in and day-out so whether you are bottom-fishing or casting live bait, the Fathom will stand up to the hardest fishing conditions.
By rearranging the sequence of the keyed metal washers and eared HT-100™ washers the reel can be set up for fishing a wide range of drag settings without additional parts.
Line Capacity Rings
Eliminates the question of how much line you have left when fighting a fish. The three lines on the spool flange let you know when you have 1/3rd, 2/3rd, or a full spool of line. Also if you respool often these lines give you a benchmark for backing your superlines with monofilament which will help eliminate wasted time and line.
Are you bottom fishing or trolling? Are you looking for power or speed? The Squall Lever Drag’s Versa-Handle system allows you to choose how long the handle should be in less than a minute (tools are included with each reel). Assemble the reel in the long position for more power or assemble in the short position for more speed.

I have 2 FathomLW, the 20 on a 16# G.Loomis Pelagic with 40# braid and the 40 on a 30# Chaos AR Rod with 80# braid. These are absolutely the best levelwind reels I've ever used!
PROS: I never get backlash, not one birds nest on either size having the tensioner set correctly. The star drag is a set and it forget, the drag stays where it's set and never loosens. They are extremely solid reels all around and very light weight for being all metal. I've had 60# grouper stuck in rocks, a 120# shark ripping line, 40# Mahi doing aerials and the levelwind mechanisms held up to the battle landing every beast I've hooked into. I've never had a problem with these reels! I've bottom fished, live bait, and jigged with these reels and have had great success with all applications I put it thru. CONS: I'm not a fan of the handle grip, I'd like to put a t-bar handle on it for the long fights. My 20 has a hook holder loop on the mounting plate, I wish the 40 had one too. The mounting plates would be better if metal, not plastic. I actually use the harness lugs on my 40 and my harness hooks lean on the freespool lever when engaged. I haven't had my harness hooks kick the lever into freespool, but it is a concern. I'd like to see a Fathom Levelwind with a Lever drag please.
Just back from a Westport charter trip. The FTH25LWLH i brought with me because the boat didnt have any left handed reeels was the envy of the charter. Loaded with Maxima 30lb Ivory, handled everything, including Coho Salmon with ease. Charter captain was so impressed with it, he wants his own.
I fish with this reel and it does not let line off the spool like other reels do. I have the largest version of this reel. THIS IS A GOOD REEL BUT THAT IS THE ONLY PROBLEM
I purchased three number 60 reels to setup with cooper line for salmon fishing in July of 2012. By August of this season 2 out of 3 handles broke. we only fish 5 months a year. and fish cooper only about 35% of the time. Only a 1 year warranty. I am very disappointed. I will be looking at other brands for my next purchase.
