I currently have 4 of these reels; 3000,4000,5000,6000. i use the 3k and 4k insore and they are super smooth. nice smooth drag. the 5k and 6k i use offshore. my offshore reels get dipped in saltwater the entire time im out fishing. after a year of abuse fighting kings, jacks, snapper and anything else the ocean offers they still work like new. only problem i ever had was i didnt clean the reel good enough after a trip out and had to replace the top bearing. a whoping 3$ for the bearing and i was back in business. for the money they are the best reels on the market right now, not to mention you can buy them almost anywhere. yes the same reels at walmart are the same reels at bass pro.
I have 3 if these reels. 3000, 4000, & 8000. The all do amazing and have never failed in me weather you're running mono or braid. In my 3 and 4 I've got 10lbs mono and 12lbs mono. On my 8 I have 65lbs braid. Awesome!
I run a surf casting/ shore fishing business on the Big Island of Hawaii. We have some of the most demanding conditions you can imagine. Sun, salt, sand, rocks, red dirt, you name it we've drug our fishing gear through it. After going through literally dozens of other reels I came across a Penn fierce. What a difference. This is the reel we've always needed. Solid construction, good balance and a tough drag make this an almost perfect reel for Hawaiian shorefishing.
I first started using this reel a year ago. I now have four of these reels on the boat. The torque they have is amazing. They are extremely durable, tough, and offer exceptionally smooth casting and retrieval. I use the fierce for drop shot fishing for mackinaw....awesome! I would recommend the fierce to anyone for any application. Great reel!
