I own 2 trqs7 g's. These are great reels and much to my surprise just as good as my conventional. I lived in Florida and have had some large catches with nothing but confidence. I had a bull shark at the end 1 time which was around 200 lbs. I got it to the boat and cut it free.. The point is that I got it to the boat! I now live in New Jersey and have had a few stripers with them. I drag umbrella rigs. Lookin forward to a tuna this summer! I recommend these reels and they're made in America. Not many have that bragging right! Nice for surf, boat, and any kind of fishing possible. Very smooth. Happy fishing!
I am in my third year of fishing the Penn Torque 5 spinner. This reel is fantastic. It has been dunked numerous time with no water intrusion in the gear box or drag. The drag is strong and very smooth. It starts easily and maintains constant pressure during long runs with powerful fish. The line lay is great and it is a great casting reel. I operate the bail in the manual mode and i have never a premature bail closure. This is truly a "world class" spinner and i highly recommend it.
I got the black coated Torque shipped from Bass Pro Shops and the first night I went fishing I hooked a 45 inch stripper (I measured it). When I was reeling him in, it was still so smooth and did not lock up. Bass Pro Shops gave the reel to me at $699.99 (It was worth it!). I also got a 10ft Torque surf rod shipped with the reel. The Torque combo is my best surf rod in my garage, and I will take care of it forever!
I have the largest reel and it is world class and is worth the $700
